We all seem to have a generic image of what scientist looks like and what type of name they usually have. Without thinking or consulting, twelve college students drew, for the most part, the same pictures of a male scientist, next to a table with a bubbling bottle, wearing safety goggles and with crazy, static hair. All of the names began with Dr. or Professor. This speaks volumes about what science is to the average student.
The reason behind this generic image, whatever it may be, should be a force that is pushed back against. Women in science, practical and normal looking scientists, who are someone children can relate to is important to portray.
